Chance to help dementia patients in Thurrock

VOLUNTEERS are being asked to come forward to help a local mental health trust care for borough residents.
Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) is looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles, which range from providing direct support for patients to helping to develop trust services.
The Trust has more than 300 volunteers who provide invaluable support for patients, their families and visitors, and staff.
For Volunteers' Week, which began yesterday (2June) the trust is highlighting roles it has available.
Among them is a request for volunteer support for dementia wards in Thurrock, at Long Lane community hospital, in Grays.
This is a varied role and you will play a vital role in enhancing the well-being and quality of life for patients living with dementia.
The role includes:
· Spending time with patients, engaging them in conversation, sharing stories, and participating in activities such as games or crafts.
· Helping staff to organise activities, group sessions, and events for patients
· Offering companionship and emotional support to patients to help reduce feelings of isolation or anxiety.
· Support with meal times and personal care where appropriate.
