A FUNDRAISING and awareness event at a Thurrock store today proved a great success for a borough-based homeless charity.

Volunteers representing the Friends of Essex and London Homeless were at the Morrisons store in Grays today, passing on information to shoppers about the charity's work and collecting donations of food and cash.

The charity, which can also be found on Facebook here was founded by Purfleet couple Cheryl and Steven Stuart and has grown into a major support line for homeless people in London and South Essex.

It hosts a number of events [https://thurrock.nub.news/n/friends-charity-is-making-a-real-difference-on-the-streets-of-thurrock[L+] in London and the region, including a soup kitchen in Grays. [.L]

Today's event raised £433.56 and lots of 'pick-up packs', which shoppers can pay for at the till and then donate, were handed over.

Another event at Morrisons in conjunction with the charity is planned next month when an attempt is going to be made to fill an entire parking space with groceries!
