RESIDENTS in East Tilbury are being urged to support a community event in its village hall this weekend.

An indoor boot sale will be held at the hall on Princess Margaret Road on Sunday (10 October from 2 to 6pm.

Its aim is to raise funds for the maintenance of the hall and bring local people together, as one of the committee members and regular hall users, Lisa Hearn, explains. She says: "The new committee members have decided to try and get the community to come together more, building a hub for the East Tilbury village as a go to place.

"On a regular basis we have decided to run indoor boot sales and craft fete to help local small business and residents sell their second hand items, and it starts this weekend."

Lisa, who runs dance, acting and gymnastics classes in the area, adds that the committee will be pleased to hear from local residents who have ideas that could come to life at the hall to boost worthwhile causes, such as more sales, craft fairs and possibly a Christmas fete.

She also sees events as a way of bringing new residents in the expanding village into the local community.

And that raising help awareness of the hall will help combat negative events, like a recent attack of vandalism.
