A CHARITY has been boosted by a donation of more than £2,000 thanks to the efforts of a Corringham club and older members of the local community.

Clare Young of the Alzheimer's Society attended an afternoon gathering hosted by Corringham Social Club on Lampits Hill today (Wednesday, 22 April) to receive a cheque for £2,080.75 raised at the venue last weekend.

The evening of entertainment was organised by Gillian Finch, and her partner Roger Wilson, residents of Kynoch Court in Stanford-le-Hope which included a raffle for a large screen TV.

Today Gillian and Roger – and TV winner Lynn - attended the Corringham Social Club's regular Wednesday afternoon meeting for the community's 'young at heart' with entertainment, dancing and a great deal of laughter and camaraderie.

Gillian said: "Thank you for everyone who supported this event, particularly Corringham Social Club which allowed us to use their upstairs function room for the event. The club does a great deal for the local community."

The cheque presentation was managed by popular local character 'Frog', who was suitably attired for the occasion.
