POLICE are conducting a forensic examination in the concierge area of Tilbury's Tasmania House after a reported stabbing.

Thurrock Council has confirmed closure of the concierge area, saying: "A man has been assaulted and taken to A&E. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The incident, which happened earlier this afternoon, took place in the tunnel area of Tasmania House on Leicester road.

The council statement continues "Access has been closed off until police scenes of crime officers have completed their work."

Access for residents has been arranged through the back doors of neighbouring Brisbane House and Tasmania House.

A police statement says: "We are currently on scene of a serious assault, which has taken place on Leicester Road in Tilbury.

"Officers were called around 12:45pm and remain at the scene. A man has been taken to hospital."
