THURROCK Council has announced this afternoon (Sunday, 9 May) it plans to introduce additional rubbish drop off points in the borough, though exact locations have not yet been announced.

As the ongoing industrial action by Unite union members bites ever deeper, a social media post by the authority says: "We are opening additional drop-off points in Blackshots and Belhus from Tuesday.

"We are also planning an additional site in Orsett which will be confirmed early next week."

Earlier today Thurrock Nub News posted a story featuring Orsett councillor Sue Little who called for a site in Orsett saying: "I for one am not prepared to be going here, there and everywhere at my age trying to dump my overflowing waste."

The council is also seeking to recruit new staff to cover bin rounds. Under employment legislation it cannot hire contractors to do striking workers' jobs so has now launched a recruitment drive for bin handlers and drivers.
