Council can't promise junction solution yet

THERE appears little sign of an immediate resolution to the problem of temporary traffic lights at the junction of Buckingham Hill Road and Stanford Road (A1013).

Temporary lights have been in place at the junction for most of 2019 after new permanent lights were installed as part of the planning permission granted to Persimmon Homes to build new homes in East Tilbury.

However, the work, completed in the spring, was botched and failed to pass a safety inspection.

The lights have failed many times, most recently at the weekend, causing problems for motorists.

However, Thurrock Council, which is responsible for the junction, says it cannot yet bring about a proper solution.

A statement issued to Thurrock NubNews today (Monday, 9 December) says: "Thurrock Council continues to work with Persimmon Homes and BT to resolve the ongoing issue of utility diversions on this road.

"The council is acting as an intermediary between the companies in order to ensure conclusion of these works, which were not satisfactorily completed by Persimmon Homes before the scheme was completed in May 2019.

"Thurrock Council will continue to push both parties to get a resolution as soon as possible."
