Council extends bookings at Thameside Theatre
By Nub News Reporter 4th Aug 2026
THURROCK Council has announced it is extending the life of the Thameside Theatre, now allowing booking for 'at least' another 20 months - up to March 2028.
The future of the theatre has been a centre of attention locally for the past five years. Under a Conservative administration in 2021 it was announced it was planned to be closed.
However, a series of deferments on that decision by Conservative and Labour administrations have allowed extensions to the theatre's commercial life.
Now Reform has its hand on the tiller and says booking will continue
Cllr George Monk, cabinet member for Deregulation, Efficiency and Civic Pride, said today (Tuesday, 4 August): "The Thameside Theatre is a vital local hub for arts and culture, so it is fantastic to know that its immediate future is secure and that it will be booking shows to keep everyone entertained until at least March 2028.
"That means that the ever-popular pantomime will be here in Grays this coming Christmas and the next for sure. On top of that, there will be plays, comedy, music and dance shows to keep the stalls full and audiences entertained.
"I am sure there will be something for everyone, so I recommend that you take a look at what they have coming up and make sure that you stay up to date with future shows, so you can join the fun and don't miss out."

This Christmas, the Thameside pantomime is Rapunzel. Tickets are selling fast, but bookings are still available here and tickets for relaxed performances can be bought here.
