A POTENTIAL pony and trap race on the Manorway at Corringham was stopped in its tracks by Essex Police this morning.

Cllr Rob Gledhill, Leader of Thurrock Council, said: "I am pleased that Essex Police took prompt action this morning to stop the disruption caused by those who think Thurrock roads are a race track.

"The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) we have in place, prohibiting horse-drawn carriages on the Manorway, is there to help prevent accidents on an extremely busy stretch of road. Attempting to hold races on this road this could lead to the death of horses, riders - or even those who stand and watch."
