Council seeking solution to frequently flooded roundabout

THURROCK Council says it is working with partners in a bid to stop flooding which has blighted on the borough's busiest roundabouts.

Recent heavy rainfall has frequently seen the roundabout at the Tilbury end of the Dock approach Road (A1089) many inches deep in water, at times making it impassable for cars. Adjacent roads are also regularly flooded.

The roundabout is the access point to the nearby ASDA superstore as well as to the Port of Tilbury and Tilbury town.

A team from the council recently visited the site and say there is no quick solution and an additional drainage link may have to be created.

A statement from the council says: "We are aware of flooding to the lane nearest the roundabout and a section of the footpath at ASDA/Uniserve Industrial Estate at Thurrock Park Way, Tilbury.

"Our highways team attended the site following the high volume of rain experienced and removed 15 loads of water. This made no impact and on further inspection it was confirmed that the gullies and nearby drainage system are at full capacity and not blocked.

"We are actively working on a solution with our partners to connect to an adjacent drainage system. The issue is within an area owned by a third party and therefore we are unable to resolve it as quickly as we would hope."

The A10898 is managed by Highways England, while land adjacent to the roundabout is in private ownership.
