Council spreads message about winter cash
By Nub News Reporter 13th Dec 2024
THURROCK Council has written to more than a thousand pensioners to help make sure they know they could be entitled to thousands of pounds worth of additional support by claiming Pension Credit before applications close on Saturday, 21 December.
Cllr Sara Muldowney, Cabinet member for Resources, said: "It is really important that anyone who thinks they might be eligible applies for pension credit. It not only tops up your income by an average of £3,900 it also unlocks payments and discounts worth thousands more that you are entitled to.
"We have created the Thurrock Cares campaign to help people who are struggling financially this winter and this letter is just one of the ways we are helping make sure people get the help they need.
"We've created a special Thurrock Cares area on our website which will help guide people to the financial help and support which is available.
"Our roadshows bring together council teams and other organisations including Thurrock Foodbank, alongside organisations such as Active Thurrock, Healthwatch Thurrock, Thurrock Adult Community College and Active Essex in a handy one-stop-shop for advice and guidance."
