AN event next month is set to inspire young people and adults of all ages to explore local apprenticeship opportunities in Thurrock.

The event, taking place on Thursday, 6 February in Grays, will bring together local employers, training providers and services to share the range of exciting opportunities that are available. Free information sessions for parents will also be available to provide expert advice around apprenticeships and the various levels of qualifications that are on offer.

The drop-in event will take place from 3pm to 7.30pm at Thurrock Adult Community College, Grays with full details available at www.thurrockopportunities.co.uk

National Apprenticeship Week takes place from Monday, 3 to Friday 7 February this year and promotes what apprenticeships offer to people of all ages through valuable work experience.

Cllr Andrew Jefferies, portfolio holder for education, said: "Apprenticeships are a great opportunity for our residents to earn whilst they learn and progress towards developing a rewarding career.

"It's a common misconception that you have to be a young person to undertake an apprenticeship, with opportunities being available for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Apprenticeships can also serve as an alternative to sixth form, college or university, with some courses offering levels up to the equivalent of a degree.

"The event is a great opportunity for residents to meet with businesses and services to see what's on offer as a route to developing an exciting, fulfilling career."
