COUNCILLORS in Stanford-le-Hope have welcomed an upgrade for the CCTV in operation at a troublesome tunnel.

Stanford West ward's Cllr Shane Hebb and Cllr Shane Ralph from Stanford East and Corringham Town ward have commented on the upgrade for the CCTV system and TV monitors at the Abbotts Hall Chase subway.

Cllr Hebb said: "Some years ago, we campaigned and were successful in working with DP World and Thurrock Council to secure a CCTV camera system installed with a TV in the Abbotts Hall Chase subway – which was designed to enable pedestrians to check if the route was safe before passing through.

"As local residents will know, these cameras fell into disrepair in recent years.

"We have been campaigning for some time to have the system replaced, and we are appreciative to all those involved who have enabled this system to be upgraded, and put back into place".

Cllr Ralph added: "This new CCTV upgrade in the Abbotts Hall/Cloisters subway will create a much safer pedestrian route for those who use this subway – this is a well-used subway and I am glad that the work has been completed to make trips through it safer. Thanks to all involved."
