FIREFIGHTERS were called to deal with a fire involving a crane at Tilbury docks.

The incidnt happened on Saturday afternoon, just before 4pm when crews from Orsett, Corringham and Grays were called to the port. On arrival they found a dockside crane was completely alight.

To prevent fuel reaching the open water, a sandbank was created using an on-site mechanical digger.

The fire was extinguished completely by 5.30pm. It is believed the fire was caused accidentally by an electrical fault.
