Discover volunteering at wildlife centre

By Neil Speight 18th Apr 2021

A CALL has gone out for volunteers to help at the Thameside Thurrock Nature Discovery Centre on Wednesday.

The centre in the park, which is accessed via Mucking Wharf Road, is open between 10am and 5pm so helpers could cover slots including 9.30 am to 1pm, helping open up the centre, assisting cleaning with some window shining, a little light sweeping, and the all-important sanitising routine!

Or the afternoon shift from 1 to 5pm, covering staff lunch breaks and winding down at the end of the day. "Or, whatever you can manage" says the centre manager Jimmy Allan, who adds: "We aren't doing hot food at the moment, so with training you'd be operating a till, and serving hot drinks, (that may change towards the end of the year.)

"We all change round throughout the day, so you'd also be on meet and greet, welcoming visitors and answering queries, ideally asking for donations and eventually signing up memberships.

"We'd love you to be bubbly, outgoing, chatty and friendly, or any combination of these qualities!

"Thameside is all about engagement with our visitors, ensuring they've had a lovely visit, so they come back and bring their friends."

If you are interested in getting involved contact Jimmy at [email protected] or telephone the centre on 01375 643342.
