A FAITH and belief tree sculpture has been put up in the entrance close to the multi faith prayer room at Basildon & Thurrock Hospital.

Similar scultures have been placed at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust's other hospitals at Broomfield and Southend.

The trees mean people are to leave written names and tributes on paper leaves to remember loved ones who have died.

The Trust received the tree sculptures from UNISON branches along with local community support and a plaque from Adam and Greenwood Funeral Directors.

Trust Chaplain, Timothy Blake, who led on this project said: "People often want to remember family or friends who have died and this physical tribute in the hospitals can be comforting to see. We hope that both patients and staff will take the opportunity to remember their loved ones.

"We are grateful to UNISON, members of the local community and Adam and Greenwood Funeral Directors for funding these sculptures which provide a real focal point and space to reflect."

Joyce Aldridge, Branch Secretary – UNISON, Basildon & Thurrock Health Branch, StaffSide Lead said: 'Basildon & Thurrock, Mid Essex, and Southend UNISON Health branches are privileged to be able to support the Faith Trees for the benefit of all staff, patients and relatives; enabling all to have a moment of quiet reflection remembering lost loved ones and colleagues.''

Adam and Greenwood Funeral Directors, who are based in Billericay, Chelmsford and Maldon, said: "We are passionate in serving the local community. We feel honoured to be able to donate these plaques for the memorial tree to remember all those who have died; particularly in these difficult last years."
