Fears for future of remembrance and poppy appeal in Grays

A CALL has gone out for help to run a local branch of the Royal British Legion – with fear expressed that if no-one is forthcoming the branch may close and Grays will no longer have its annual remembrance commemoration and poppy appeal.

Rod Oakley is president and standard bearer for the Legion's Grays Thurrock branch and says: "We are looking for two volunteers.

"We need a secretary and a poppy appeal organiser. If we do not get these two important positions filled there is a distinct possibility that the branch will fold.

"This will mean no RBL-hosted remembrance parade in Grays and the lack of an organised collection for the poppy appeal in Grays and Lakeside.

"If you wish to help please let me know."

Mr Oakley can be contacted 07854 897227 or via Facebook.
