A CREW from Orsett fire station fought a small woodland blaze last night - just a couple of hundred yards from the station.

The blaze was on land adjacent to the Orsett Cock roundabout A128 junction.

However, the crew had to come from Grays station as the Orsett one remains closed following a recent fire.

It is likely to remain closed until the end the year as Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have decided to refurbish the station.

A statement from the service says: "Following the recent fire at Orsett Fire Station we decided to take the opportunity to refurbish the station at the same time as cleaning up the damage from the fire. We expect the station to be fully functional with crews responding from there by the end of the year."
