FIREFIGHTERS were called to a roof fire in Stanford-le-Hope this afternoon, (Friday, 10 September)

Residents of a home on Grove Road were alerted to the fire after their neighbours spotted smoke coming from the roof. The occupants then immediately made their way out of the house and called Essex Fire and Rescue.

On arrival, crews reported that the roof of a bungalow was on fire and smoke logged. Crews extinguished the fire by 4.43pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.

Two crews attended the blaze, including one from Corringham who are on-call firefighters who all live or work within 5 minutes of Corringham Fire Station.

A plea is currenlty being made for more local residents or workers to join the crews at Corringham. If you live or work within five minutes of an on-call fire station, you could be paid to protect your community as an on-call firefighter.
