TWO locally-based businesses have saved this year's Christmas lights in South Ockendon.

The local community forum had been forced to make the tough decision that it could not finance the cost of the Christmas street lights and Christmas tree year.

A spokesperson said: "The Forum has financed this project for many years but due to finances being so low there was no alternative but to cancel this year's lights."

However, two firms - SEIB (South Essex Insurance Brokers) and H.W. Wilson have come to the rescue and have agreed to underwrite the costs.

So the Christmas lights and Christmas tree will be switched on Friday, 3 December.

A carol concert at St Nicholas Church will also be held to coincide with the lights being switched on. Details to be confirmed shortly.
