THIS week's gas leak and road closure in Dock Road, Grays, which caused delay and diversions for motorists, residents and bus users had one positive outcome.

When leak happened on Wednesday police and gas engineers rushed to the scene and entered nearby homes and retail premises to ensure none were occupied.

They gained entry into a flat above a shop - and found a cannabis farm!

Around 60 plants were recovered from the flat.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers found a number of cannabis plants while attending an address in Broadway, Grays on 3 February.

"Our enquiries are ongoing."

Meanwhile the road remains closed and is likely to be so until Monday.
