Forum meeting could see new options for ferry return given an airing after MP secures £20m for Tilbury
By Nub News Reporter 31st Mar 2026
OPTIONS to bring back the Tilbury to Gravesend ferry crossing are set to be aired at a meeting of Tilbury Community Forum this evening (Tuesday, 31 March).
Thurrock MP Jen Craft will attend the forum meeting, starting at the Tilbury Community Association on Civic Square at 7pm, to give details of the recently announced £20 million grant funding for the town.
The money from the Pride of Place fund will be spread over ten years and is to be put to local use for the benefit of residents.
Mrs Craft is calling on residents to come up with ideas about how the money should be spent and there has been widespread support for some of it to contribute to the return of the ferry, which stopped operating because of a lack of public funding in April 2024.

It's just a few days since borough councillors were told options for the ferry's return were limited because of Thurrock Council's financial problems, but possibilities including the possible launch of a community interest company part-funded by the new grant are likely to be among ideas aired this evening.
The meeting is open to all members of the public and other discussions may touch on the Youth Zone project currently under construction in the town on the Anchor Field and dust and air pollution issues.
