ENGINEERS from gas company Cadent were on the scene quickly in Stanford-le-Hope this afternoon to fix a leak that prompted a response from emergency services.

An alarm was raised just before 2pm after a pipe was reportedly cut by accident on Grove Road and the first response was from police and firefighters who closed the road and created a cordon to ensure safety.

The cordon did disrupt access to and from some homes and the nearby Recreation Ground and Stanford Primary School, but the cordon was lifted after about an hour when Cadent arrived.

A spokesperson for Cadent said: "A gas leak in Grove Road was caused by third-party damage to a pipe.

"Our engineers arrived on site this afternoon to assess the situation before carrying out repair work.

"We appreciate everyone's patience as we worked to get this resolved as soon as possible."

Engineers on scene reported the leak was fixed and the site safe by 4pm.
