Gateway dances away the Covid-blues and releases its version of viral message of cheer

By Neil Speight 11th Jan 2021

STAFF and students at Thurrock's Gateway Academy have posted a video of them meeting a joyful; dance challenge to show that they remain upbeat in the face of coronavirus.

In February the Angolan dance troupe Fenómenos do Semba created the viral Jerusalema Dance Challenge video that showed off their dance moves to the South African hit song Jerusalema.

Their video was set in a backyard in Luanda, where they break into a group dance, and it has been replicated all around the world.

The Gateway, where vulnerable students and those whose parents are key workers are still attending, has released its version of the dance.

A spokesperson for the academy says: "It has been an amazing effort from the Gateway Learning Community to keep spirits high throughout an extremely challenging time.

"To release some of the pressures staff and students are feeling, to ensure we are continuously thinking of those who are struggling during the pandemic and to thank all of those who are supporting our community at this time, this is our version of the Jerusalelma Dance."
