Glamorous life of internet influencer played out while she dodged 16 years of council tax. Now she's behind bars, not in front of a camera

A THURROCK-based mum of four who claims to be a fashion model and self-acclaimed mind guru, social media influencer, TV show host, rapper & recording artist, financial trader and former company director has been jailed for 90 days after failing to pay her Thurrock Council tax for 16 years.
Chinwe Stephanie Amazigo, formerly of 2 Dell Court, Dell Road, Grays, has 12,000 followers on the Facebook page of her glamorous alter ego Stephanie Madubunyi, where she recalls life as a model for Louis Vuitton and being an 'Insider' for British Vogue.
She met her fate at Southend Magistrates Court last week. Or she would have done had she attended. Magistrates dealt with the case in her absence and she was committed to be put behind bars.

Magistrates said her offending was so serious because she has a flagrant disregard for court orders.
Her prosecution, brought by Thurrock Council, had previously been heard by the court in May 2026, when magistrates imposed a suspended sentence and ordered payments of £2,000 per month towards the debt.
Despite that opportunity, no payments were made, resulting in the case going back to the court last Thursday (1 October).
In her absence, magistrates found American-born Amazigo guilty of wilful refusal to pay Council Tax and ordered her to be jailed for 90 days. The outstanding debt totalled £21,514.94, including fees.
The case follows more than 16 years of non-payment and extensive efforts by Thurrock Council to encourage Amazigo to address the debt.
During this period, the Council issued 83 statutory notices, including demand notices, reminders, final notices and summonses. The case was also referred to enforcement agents on numerous occasions, while Amazigo was repeatedly signposted to support services and invited to discuss their financial situation with the council.
In addition, multiple emails and text messages were sent to the resident, and more than 30 invitations were issued requesting her attend council offices to discuss the outstanding debt and available support options.
While all this was going on, Amazigo – a mum of four – was promoting the glamourous lifestyle of Stephanie Madubunyi; recording songs, publishing music videos, hosting TV shows and a host of other activities – many played out on social media.

Amazigo - or Madubunyi in the digital world - claims to be a "Vogue Insider" at British Vogue, meaning she is a member of an exclusive, community-driven beauty club that tests and reviews industry products
She founded and was a director of Grays-based innovative Regal Dynasty Junior Club, which offers innovative learning programmes for young children. And was also a director of the now-dissolved Creating Crowns - Legal Dynasty Ltd, which was said to be involved in the administration of financial markets. The original address of the company when it was incorporated on 16 May2022 was 2 Dell Road, Grays, but within 24 hours was simplified to just Dell Road, Grays, England, RM17 5JS.
In a statement released on Monday (5 October), that did not name or give the address of Amazigo, Thurrock Council said: "The Council exhausted all available recovery and enforcement methods before seeking committal proceedings. The resident was offered support in line with the Council's Fair Debt Policy, including signposting to organisations providing free and independent financial advice. However, they failed to engage with any support offered.
"Records showed the resident had not made a single payment towards Council Tax at their previous property, where they resided for more than 16 years, nor at their subsequent property within the borough."
The 'previous property' is 2 Dell Court but Amazigo now lives in a terraced home in South Stifford from where her digital output continues.
Much of the imagery on the site is digitally altered, perhaps best illustrated by a picture of her dog, Queenie. Neighbours in Dell Road have told Nub News they remember and recognise the pet ,which was frequently let loose outside Dell Court - but they say 'Stephanie' who is holding her is definitely not a realistic image of Chinwe Stephanie Amazigo.
Her Facebook page contains reports on a number of sexual abnd violent crimes and offences by a variety of men. One post on her website features foul and abuse language and allegations against a neighbour from the street where she now lives. The film, on which we have put a viewing age limit, can be watched via this link, but be warned it contains extremely foul and abusive language. Amazigo watched and filmed the incident, 'hidden behind her curtains'.
In the council's statement Cllr Sara Poyntz, portfolio holder for finance, said: "Council Tax is vital for funding the services that residents rely on every day, from caring for vulnerable people and maintaining our roads to collecting waste and supporting local communities.
"This case demonstrates the serious consequences of repeatedly refusing to meet Council Tax obligations. It is unfair on the vast majority of residents who pay their Council Tax and contribute towards the services that benefit everyone in Thurrock."
Thurrock Nub News visited Amazigo's home in South Stifford today (Tuesday, 6 October) and spoke to her partner. He confirmed Amazigo was behind the Facebook site and other social media pages and platforms but declined to comment further, saying 'speak to her. He did add that his partner was 'away' but would be back soon - and that her four children, aged from two to 14 are being safely looked after. The children's father is Michael Madubunyi.
