Grays man charged with causing death of pedestrian

A GRAYS man has been charged with causing death by carless driving after a collision in the town last year.
Billy Howard-Smith, 26, of Heathview Road in Grays, is charged with causing death by carless driving and possession of a Class B drug and appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 14 July.
He will next appear at Basildon Crown Court on 14 August 2026.
He is charged in connection with a road traffic collision in Lodge Lane, Grays, on the evening of 21 April 2025, which involved a van and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian Roy Hibbert, 72, sustained serious injuries and he later died in hospital on 21 June
