A GROUP aimed at encouraging people of all ages with special needs engage in arts and crafts is hoping to expand its work across Thurrock.

'Get Started' provides free Arts & Crafts materials and support, to help disadvantaged children, vulnerable adults and people of all ages with learning disabilities or special needs in the Thurrock area.

Involvement in arts and crafts builds fine motor and problem-solving skills, enhances communication and expression and promotes self-esteem and motivation to succeed.

For people suffering with dementia, art and colour can be used to express thoughts, feelings and memories. It can help engage attention and may improve symptoms of anxiety and apathy.

A statement from the group says: "We believe in the community and do all we can to help those groups who feel the same.

"Get Started Art CIC is delighted to help support amazing community groups with donations of materials, arranging workshops and providing support at community and craft events.
