LOOKING for some family friendly fun this February half-term? Thurrock council is offering the opportunity to reconnect with nature and enjoy some free activities in the borough's parks and green spaces.

The Council is hosting its latest Active Parks programme of crafts and sports activities from Monday 17 February to Friday 21 February to enhance residents' experiences in the great outdoors and the borough's parks.

Daily morning and afternoon sessions will be held across the week in Grays, Aveley, Bulphan, Tilbury, Purfleet, Corringham, West Thurrock, South Ockendon, Chafford Hundred and Horndon on the Hill.

Events include ball court sports and multi-sports such as dodgeball, tag rugby, cricket and football, as well as craft activities, and will be subject to weather conditions on the day. The Friends of Langdon Hills Country Park will also be involved in a session dedicated to making bird feeders from pine cones, lard and seed.

These events follow a successful programme of parks sessions over the past year held during school half-term and summer holidays.

Cllr Aaron Watkins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sports and Leisure, said: "We want our residents to reconnect with the environment on their doorstep and there's no better way to do that than being out and about with our Active Parks team, or getting involved with local friends of parks or community groups.

"Our programme of sports and activities continues to go from strength to strength and we are delighted to encourage children, young people and adults of all ages to take advantage of Thurrock's parks and green spaces."

No booking is necessary for events and residents can turn up on the day.
