MEMBERS of Thurrock's community policing team have highlighted a hidden part of their job with a heart-warming story as they were out making friends and building bridges with the community they serve

PCSOs Sheri Howell and JoJo Mitchell were pictured on social media with a borough youngster after his mum contacted them after being concerned he was becoming scared of the police.

A force statement says: "This little lad was paid a visit today, Saturday 16 May by PCSOs Sheri Howell and JoJo Mitchell, after his concerned mother contacted us due to him developing a fear of the police.

"Despite a rather shaky start he soon came around, and the officers were soon swapping dance moves and chatting about his pets and hobbies.

"The officers assured him that the police are here to help. We hope that this will have a lasting impression on him, and that 10 minutes of the officers' time made a difference."
