Hoarding carries Christmas cheer and hope is renewed for the State's future

PART of the hoarding surrounding the derelict State cinema in George Street in Grays has been given a festive touch.

Grays Riverside Community Big Local organisation arranged for artist Steve Blackman to adorn the hoarding with Santa and his sleigh and reindeer to brighten up the facade.

Meanwhile there is a little optimism from campaigners who wish to see the State restored.

Thurrock Nub News recently reported on negotiations between the site's new owner and Thurrock COuncil to get work underway to make the building watertight again.

That, we understand, has now been agreed and the owners have pledged further remedial work and said they have plans to bring the building back to life, possibly as a function centre.

The owners have also entered into dialogue with campaigners and more news is promised in the new year as plans unfold,
