A PLAN to build a two bedroom home on garden land in a borough residential area have been rejected by planning officers. But they have given approval to an application for a new home in Grays where a garage will be demolished to make way for the two bed build

Thurrock Council has turned down the bid for the new home on land adjacent to 5 Malpas Road, Chadwell St Mary, saying: "The proposed dwelling, by reason of its scale and siting would appear as an overly dominant and incongruous feature on a prominent corner plot.

"This would be out of character in the context and appearance of the immediate street scene and locality and the contribution such plots make to the area."

Details of the application and full reasons for rejection can be found here.

However, there was joy for the application for a two bed end of terrace home with parking and private garden, rear garage and amended parking to at 1, Medick Court in Grays.

While the Chadwell application had just one objection from neighbours, seven letters of opposition were received for the one in Grays but they were dismissed.

The full Grays application can be found here.
