Initial delay but new Covid test site is operational now

By Neil Speight 23rd Dec 2020

THE opening of the new NHS mobile testing unit at Tilbury's London International Cruise Terminal on Fort Road was delayed this morning but is now operational.

The mobile unit at the site broke down en-route but has now arrived and tests are taking place.

The new drive-through centre is in addition to those at Cromwell Road in Grays and Grover Walk in Corringham. They can be booked through the link below. These centres will be open right through Christmas (including Christmas Day and Boxing day) into the new year.

There is also walk through test centre, which does require advance booking at Grays Beach car park.

A 'D-I-Y' Test kit is available today (Wednesday, 23 December) from at Stanley Lazell Hall in Dell Road, Grays, between 9:30am and 4:30pm only for 11 to 18 year olds and their families. The service will also be available on Tuesday, 29 December and Wednesday, 30 December.

You don't need to book this test online. Parking at the site is extremely limited so you may need to use on-street parking nearby. After picking up your test take it home, register here then drop it back at Stanley Lazell Hall.

A courier collects completed tests each day from the centre.
