RESIDENTS in Tilbury and Little Thurrock were disturbed by the sounds of protest as dawn broke this morning (Friday, 30 October).

Music, drumming and chanting drifted from the gates of the Port of Tilbury where supporters of the 'International Dock and Transport Workers Against War and Genocide' were making their views known.

The protest was supposed to start at 9am but campaigners arrived early, many via the adjacent Tilbury Town c2c station.

Residents reported being woken up as early as 6.30am.

The protest, confined to the dock gates, was marshalled by Port of Tilbury police.
