A ROUSING chorus of Ogi, Ogi, Ogi paid tribute to the Queen as youngsters from Belhus Park Scouts enjoyed a celebration not just of the Platinum Jubilee, but also their own 70th anniversary today (Wednesday, 1 June).

Beavers, cubs and scouts, together with helpers and scout leaders enjoyed games and a festive meal to mark both anniversaries at Belhus Park Scout Hall on Faymore Gardens, South Ockendon.

Recently installed group leader Mick Watts, who has spent more than 30 years with the group, expressed his gratitude to Henry Sudhir from the Nisa store on nearby Canterbury Parade, whose generosity in dontating £1,000 to the scouts helped fund the celebration.

Despite his longevity with the group, Mick was far from the longest-serviving person at the party - his wife Shirley surpasses him with her commitment of more than 40 years while two 'veterans' at the event were Leon and Arthur who both started with Belhus Park scouts when they were eight - many decades ago. Arthur has recently stepped down as Group Scout leader but still remains a active part of the group and Leon is still a active scout leader, both with 50 years under their belts.
