A THURROCK woman's powerful efforts have raised more than £1,500 for a regional cancer charity.

As reported earlier in the week on Thurrock Nub News, Kamaldeep (Kam) Wallis set up an attempt to pull a 14 tonne steam engine on its rail tracks to complete one of the Lady McAdden breast cancer charity's "50 People, 50 Incredible Acts" challenges.

And the c2c rail company safeguarding and security manager from Grays managed to complete the task at Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway.

Afterwards she said: ""I'm incredibly proud to have completed this challenge for such an important cause. Pulling the 14 tonne train was a huge test, but the support I received kept me going.

"This was about women supporting women, pushing boundaries and raising vital funds to help people affected by breast cancer. Thank you to everyone who donated, encouraged me and helped make the day possible."

The challenge celebrates the charity's 50th Anniversary this year, bringing together 50 people completing 50 inspiring acts to help raise awareness and funds for Essex-based Lady McAdden, which provides breast cancer advice, education, awareness and support for people before, during and after diagnosis.

Kam joined c2c's Revenue Protection and Security team in September 2025, following almost 21 years with the British Transport Police.

She began strongwoman training in July 2024 and later that year was named the second strongest female officer.

She has since competed in several competitions, achieving first and second place finishes and has also taken on a number of physical challenges in recent years, including climbing Ben Nevis and cycling 91 miles for meningitis awareness, and competing in Battle Cancer events in London and raising huge fund for stroke awareness in memory of her cousin who passed away following a stroke.

Lady McAdden CEO Esther Taylor said: "We are incredibly grateful to Kam for taking on such an ambitious challenge and raising vital funds for Lady McAdden. Completing a train pull is a remarkable achievement, and her determination will help us continue providing breast cancer education and support services.

"We would also like to thank everyone who supported Kam and donated to her fundraiser."
