Lakeside event raised asthma awareness

By Nub News Reporter 11th Apr 2025

A POP-up event at Lakeside Shopping Centre helped raise awareness of asthma in babies, children and young people.

Charlotte Edwards, a children's asthma and allergy nurse at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT), spoke to shoppers at Lakeside Shopping Centre to offer advice on spotting the signs of asthma, managing the condition and effective use of inhalers.

She was joined by Zoe Knight, Senior Delivery and Engagement Manager from the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System's Thurrock Alliance, a partnership of organisations across health, social care and the voluntary sector working together to ensure children in the area receive the best care.

Throughout the event reminders about asthma care and awareness were displayed on kiosk screens at the centre and families were signposted to additional support and guidance available from local charities and health and wellbeing services.

Charlotte Edwards said: "Events like these are crucial in bridging the gap between healthcare services and the public, ensuring families feel supported and informed about managing childhood asthma effectively."

EPUT's Asthma and Allergy Service supports children and young people across Southend, Castle Point and Rochford.

The team also provides asthma, eczema and allergy training for patients, families, educational settings and childminders.
