A THURROCK councillor was on hand for what he hopes will be a final farewell to the blight of HGVs rumbling through his village.

Cllr Fraser Massey was present today (Saturday, 4 December) as the gates were closed at Walsh's tip in East Tilbury after a final delivery of spoil to the landfill site.

Some remedial work will still need to take place in the new year on the site, which has been a long-running sore for residents for many years as trucks have brought waste to the site, but the disruption to local life will be minimal say Walsh's.

"This will be a welcome end to what has been a long-running nuisance to the village," said Cllr Massey.
