A CELEBRATION event due to be held at Orsett Showground over the weekend to mark the Coronation has been cancelled.

The site was due to play host to the Great British Festival from Friday, 5 May until Monday, 8 May with a range of entertainment.

However, the organisers have now called it off due to administration issues.

A statement says: "We are so sorry to have to say we will be cancelling the great British festival.

"We had already been forced to cancel our Friday evening schedule, and now due to logistical difficulties, we feel we will not be able to put on the event you all deserve.

"We will be working on another event next year and be back better than ever. We thank you for your support and understanding.

"Our messenger is manned 12 hours a day, so please get in touch with any questions. Refunds will be issued this week."

There have been some comments on social media suggesting the issue is the inability of Essex Police to attend the event.

However, this has been denied by the force, who briefed Nub News, saying: "Initially the necessary licensing permissions were not in place – but a temporary events notice is either now in place - or will very soon be in place - and our community policing team will factor it into patrol plans.

"It is for the event organisers to ensure appropriate security and marshalling of crowds."
