THE lid is about to be lifted on one of Thurrock's biggest industrial sites.

Procter and Gamble, the consumer goods company behind household brands including Fairy, Gillette and Pampers, is lifting the lid on its West Thurrock plant, with a new film celebrating the people, innovation and local expertise behind every bottle of Fairy Liquid sold in the UK.

Launched ahead of National Manufacturing Day on Thursday, 24 September, the new P&G UK Fairy film takes viewers behind the scenes of its site which has been part of its manufacturing heritage for nearly 100 years, revealing the people and processes that get Fairy from the production line in West Thurrock to kitchen sinks across Britain.

The Fairy film forms part of a wider series, 'From Our Home to Yours' which celebrates P&G UK's manufacturing communities in West Thurrock, Reading and Manchester - the people that help make it one of the nation's most reliable suppliers of household and personal care products.

The video also showcases the varied careers within the sector, resetting perceptions of roles in manufacturing and product supply looking to the next generation of talent in the UK.

Timon Soliman, P&G Vice President for Product Supply Northern Europe, said: "Our London plant has been part of West Thurrock life since 1940, and what's remarkable is how much the it has continued to evolve over that time. Every bottle of Fairy Liquid sold in the UK starts its journey here, and as we look to the future, we want to keep investing in new technology, infrastructure and, importantly, the local talent who will take manufacturing in West Thurrock into its next generation."

Fairy production at West Thurrock dates back to the 1950's, creating a relationship with the local community that stretches across generations of workers and their families.

While manufacturing has transformed over that time, the real devotion employees have for creating top quality products at the London Plant has endured. As one employee featured in 'From Our Home to Yours' explains: "When you walk around, what stands out most is the genuine pride of being part of it all."

P&G UK says it is continuing to build on that sense of community by investing in the people behind its products, giving employees opportunities to develop new skills, and build long-term careers in manufacturing. By nurturing talent from within, the London Plant is helping a new generation develop the expertise needed to carry its manufacturing legacy forward.

With around 24 P&G products purchased every second across the UK, there is a huge operation behind the scenes getting – and keeping - its household-name brands on shelves.

In West Thurrock, that journey is supported by keeping both production and distribution at the same location, creating a key hub for the entire creation to shelf process.

Today, the site employs more than 700 people and produces all of the Fairy liquid for the UK and some markets beyond, working together to keep the nation stocked no matter what.

Putting consumers at the heart of innovation means continually looking at how products can work better for them in everyday life.

At West Thurrock, the team plays an important role in bringing those innovations to life at scale. Most recently, this has included producing Fairy's new upside-down bottle. It combines a unique anti-leak design with a super-concentrated formula that cuts through grease five times faster - even in cold water. For consumers, that means less mess and less effort scrubbing.

Importantly, innovation on the factory floor goes beyond the product itself. Teams are continually exploring smarter ways of working and investing in new technologies to find the most efficient processes and strengthen supply chain resilience, helping keep products available for consumers whenever they need them.
