ONE of Thurrock's charity stalwarts has been honoured by the borough's mayor for her contribution acros the local community.

Loraine Colemen, 68 from Grays, was presented with the Mayoral Roll of Honour in recognition of her work in setting up the first Reengage group in Thurrock.

Reengage is a charity that connects with older people to help them stay in contact with friends, socialise and reduce loneliness by hosting tea parties and events.

Thurrock's first Reengage group was set up by Loraine in 2015, since then she has become Local Area Coordinator for Thurrock and now oversees eight Reengage groups.

The groups support over 80 older residents in Thurrock, which is supported by over 50 volunteers.

Cllr Kairen Raper, Mayor of Thurrock, said: "The Mayoral Roll of Honour recognises and celebrates those who have made Thurrock a greater place to live, work, learn and play. It shines a light on individuals, community groups, charities and businesses that have worked hard to serve our great borough in extraordinary ways.

"Since becoming Mayor it has been my privilege to present the Mayoral Roll of Honour and Certificates of Recognition to some wonderful people who give their time to support members of the Thurrock Community. Without these wonderful people, it would not be possible for so many things to take place across Thurrock.

"I was delighted to present the Mayoral Roll of Honour to Loraine Coleman and recognise the incredible dedication she has shown by volunteering over the last nine years.

"Through Loraine's hard work, she has helped to ensure that there are fewer people facing loneliness in our borough.

"The Charity is always looking for more volunteers or for people to join their events, so if you are interested make sure to visit the Reengage website."
