THE chair of the Thurrock-based Thames Crossing Action Group has slammed the cost of the proposed route the borough as 'ridiculous'.

Laura Blake says that Based on the current estimated cost, the proposed Lower Thames Crossing will cost £475.5 million per mile.

She says: "Yes you read that correctly Four hundred and seventy five and a half million pounds per mile for the proposed Lower Thames Crossing.

"How does that compare to recent debates over whether one of the Government's other highly questionable and destructive project HS2?  That is estimated to cost around £307m per mile of track.

"This is a ridiculously high cost per mile for something which would be a hugely destructive toxic triangle creating project, that would still leave the Dartford Crossing over capacity.

"It is definitely something that needs to be bought to the new Chancellor of the Exchequer's and others attention!"
