The clockwise entry slip road at Junction 31 (A1306, Lakeside/Purfleet) remains closed, with lane one of three also shut while repairs continue.
National Highways said resurfacing work was expected to be completed by around 4.30pm, but delays remain in the area.
Drivers have faced lengthy delays throughout the day, with queues stretching for several miles and congestion affecting the A13 and roads around Lakeside and Purfleet.

Across the area there was support for drivers trapped in the queues. For example staff from the Co-op distribution centre in Oliver Road, West Thurrock handed out water to drivers stuck in the traffic.
