THERE has been significant traffic congestion in the east of the borough today (Thursday, 4 November) following a major crash on the A13.

It happened on the London-bound A13 between Basildon and Stanford-le-Hope.

Police were alerted just after 7am and in a statement said: "We were called to the scene this morning after a collision which involved a car and a motorbike.

"A man aged in his 30s has been taken to hospital for treatment.

"A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

The incident was close to the Five Bells roundabout which has been the scene of considerable congestion because of a road closure on the eastbound carriageway, highlighted on Nub News last night.
