Man arrested and charged following attempted robbery at rail station

A MAN has appeared in court following an attempted robbery which led to police holding house-to-house enquiries in Chafford Hundred.

There was intense police activity around the local rail station on Friday and an area of land was cordoned off for a time.

The attempted theft happened on Thursday, 30 January and police followed it up when they descended on houses close to the station on Friday evening.

A statement from British Transport Police says: "British Transport Police attended the area around Chafford Hundred station shortly after 10pm on 31/01.

"They carried out a search and located a man wanted in connection with an attempted robbery at the station the day earlier.

"Danny Hanrahan, 19, of Aycliffe Drive, Hemel Hempstead, has since been charged with attempted robbery, possession of cannabis and possession of a knife. He appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Monday."
