Man charged with causing death of brother

A GRAYS man is set to stand trial charged with causing the death of his brother by dangerous driving.

Joe Benton, 20, of Ashley Gardens, Grays, has been charged with causing the death of James (Jimmy) Benton.

Jimmy, 17, died on 3 June, 2016, several weeks after he was on board an unregistered off-road Husquvarna motorcycle, which its is alleged was driven dangerously on Wood View in Grays, before crashing.

The crash happened on the evening of Tuesday, 12 April. Jimmy sustained a serious head injury and was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital. Joe suffered a knee injury.

A trial date of December 12 at Basildon Crown Court has been set.
