PATIENCE proved productive and probably saved a life last evening as the QEII bridge at the Dartford crossing was closed for several hours.

The incident began shortly after 6pm when police received a call and attended the bridge.

A force statement said: "We closed the bridge after we received calls concerning a man's welfare at 6.15pm on Friday, 24 April.

"We urged motorists to stay away from the area as we talked to the man and the incident was resolved at 1.45am with the man detained and taken to hospital to receive specialist care.

"Thank you for your support and your patience."
