THE Mardyke Valley from its Purflet convergence with the Thames downstream to Bulphan continues to cause concern with another flood warning issued this evening.

Though waters along the Mardyke, which were at levels unrecorded in recent memory a couple of weeks ago, had started to diminish but on Thursday afternoon floods were reported at Bulphan and North Stifford.

Previously the sluice gate at Purfleet had been problematic, having been jammed shut but it was open and running free today.

This evening the following urgent flood warning was given by Thurrock Council: "Flooding is expected for the Mardyke from North Stifford to Purfleet overnight tonight, Thursday 28 January.

"Flood water is dangerous. Don't put yourself or others at risk."
