Mayor Sue meets the carers to mark special week

By Neil Speight 12th Jun 2021

THURROCK mayor Cllr Sue Shinnick visited carers in Thurrock today (Friday, 11 June), as part of celebrating National Carers Week.

Cllr Shinnick attended a special socially distanced afternoon tea event in Grays, hosted by the Thurrock Carers Service, which saw her meet some of the borough's carers and learn about the valuable role they play supporting vulnerable residents.

Cllr Shinnick said: "It was a pleasure to meet with some of the most kind and dedicated people in our community who provide care for others, many of them doing so voluntarily and without pay.

"Carers week is all about shining a light on the fantastic work of people like this and the invaluable contribution they provide to so many people's lives. Whether it's supporting family, relatives or neighbours, and those who have a disability, physical or mental illness or anyone who needs extra help. Our carers are a vital and cherished part of Thurrock and it has been an honour to celebrate them here today."

Carer's Week takes place from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 June this year and recognises the contribution given by the 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers.
