THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the south East of England, saying residents should be prepared for heavy rain this afternoon (Sunday, 2 January).

It says a band of thunderstorms will move quickly eastwards, perhaps leading to some localised disruption.

Motorists are warned to expect spray and sudden flooding that could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

It adds that there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost where flooding or lightning strikes occur and there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

There is a chance of some damage to trees and buildings, such as fallen branches and tiles blown from roofs.
