A THURROCK man is helping bring the local wildlife into the homes of people who can't get out and about because of coronavirus.

Local nature photographer and wildlife campaigner Nick Lay has built up a substantial following with his pictures of local animals, particularly birds, most taken in the countryside around his East Tilbury home.

Nick, 45, a lorry driver, is also the man behind preserving a local wetland habitat which sustains a colony of endangered water voles.

Nick says: "I love to capture local wildlife around East Tilbury, where I have lived all my life.

"I've captured thousands of images of local wildlife over the years some of which are quite rare including the long-eared owl and kingfishers around my local lake which is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.

"For me it's not really about getting that perfect image, it's about showing other local people the diversity of wildlife in our area and what I've seen and captured that particular day.

"I share my images on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. If my images make people smile in these uncertain days then that make me feel happy.

"Most of my wildlife photography is done either early morning when nobody else is about or early evening when the barn owls are out hunting."
